This was the first large serving bowl that I made successfully. Before this bowl, I mainly shaped clay with my hands pulling the clay out to form bowls. But, this technique requires water to lubricate the clay which made the clay weaker when I got to bigger bowls which often made them flop. For this bowl, I used the rib tool technique to shape it. This technique doesn't require adding water and actually removes the water from the clay as you are shaping. So, it helps the clay strengthen which allowed me to make this larger sized bowl that has a shallow opening.
