I call these "mosaic" bowls because they remind me of mosaics made by pebbles or cobble stones. These are hand-built rather than thrown on the wheel. This was a technique I learned from an instructor in Seattle. You lay pieces of clay over a mould and use a ribbing tool to smooth the outside, adding clay to make sure all of the pieces are substantially connected to prevent cracking during the drying and firing process. These have to be dried very slowly and are much heavier than my thrown bowls. Each one is a lot of work to make, so I only made two.
Firing: Oxidation midfire
Clay: Terracotta
