Lately, I've been really feeling the vibes of splashing and pouring glazes on pieces. The way the shape of the piece and the angles at which I throw the glaze out of the pitcher creates these fun dynamic patterns. This bowl was made with matte turquoise, butter scotch, and rutile pink glazes. The gray bubbling texture on the bottom of the bowl is due to the glaze getting stuck to the kiln shelf. The studio recently installed a type of shelf that behaves like a teflon coated nonstick pan, allowing the piece to be easily removed from the kiln shelf even when the glaze drips down to it. It seems to create a cooking effect causing these charcoaling colors.
